Touko: An eleven-year-old girl. She heads to the capital to deliver the
sickle of a Fire Hunter who died protecting her to his family.
Koushi: A fifteen-year-old former student living in the capital. He
conducts research on lightning fuel under the guidance of Okibi Yuoshichi.
His father was a Fire Hunter.
Kanata: A hunting dog that accompanied the Fire Hunter who saved Touko. He
fought together with his Fire Hunter, and now fights to protect Touko and
others.
Hinako: Koushi's younger sister. Born sickly due to a birth defect caused
by environmental pollution. Her body has been significantly modified via
experimentation.
Akira: A wandering woman Fire Hunter with a tragic past who struggles for
survival. Her hunting dog is Temari.
Kaho: A girl who was expelled from her village as a bride after she was
blamed for poor harvests and other issues. She met Touko in the black cart
that took them most of the way to the capital.
Shouzou: A crew member and mechanic of the black carts that travel from
the capital to the surrounding villages. He suffered serious injuries
while guiding Touko and the others to the capital.
Kun: A Spider child who was abandoned in the Black Forest.
Roroku: A highly skilled Fire Hunter from the Islands. His hunting dog is
Mizore.
Yuoshichi: Patriarch of the Okibi family and owner of a factory that
creates synthetic meat. He instructed Koushi to develop weapons using
lightning fuel.
Kira: The only daughter of the Okibi family. Beautiful and intelligent.
Hibana: Wife of Yuoshichi and mother of Kira. An ageless, bewitching lady.
She was born in poverty.
Hibari: A Guardian God of the Wind Clan. Freely controls spies that wander
around the capital and monitor human activities.
Rurimatsuri: A Guardian God of the Wood Clan. Has the power to control
plants.
Shuyu, Kiri, Willow, and Kunugi: These Tree People live underground in the
capital. They are failed experimental test subjects of the Guardian Gods
and are usually kept in a quarantined zone.
Kureha: A former servant of the Okibi family who went missing.
