Dramatis Personae
Nazukihiko: After spending many years as the crown prince, he ascended to the role of emperor after the great war with the Kuisaru. He rules over the Yatagarasu as a true Golden Raven.
Yukiya: Second son of the provincial governor of Taruhi Province in Hokke Territory. He once served as Nazukihiko’s personal attendant, graduated at the top of his class from the Keisōin, and became one of the Yamauchishu. He is also the grandson of Genya, the Lord of Hokke. During the great war with the Kuisaru, he commanded Yamauchi’s armies.
Hamayū: Nazukihiko’s wife, chosen through the Rite of Ascension at Sakura Palace. Born as Sumiko, she was adopted by her uncle to become the eldest duchess of Nanke. After her parents fell from grace when she was a child, she spent several years as a commoner.
Shion: Daughter of Nazukihiko and Hamayū.
Natsuka: Nazukihiko’s elder half-brother; the son of a previous emperor and a duchess of Nanke, Empress Oumurasaki. He leads Clear Mirror Temple as its head priest and gave up his claim to the throne in favor of Nazukihiko. In the past, his mother plotted to assassinate Nazukihiko.
Natsuhiko: Nazukihiko and Natsuka’s grandfather. Natsumihiko’s father. Renowned as a wise ruler. He made a secret non-aggression pact between the Imperial Court and King Saku of the Underground.
Natsumihiko: Nazukihiko and Natsuka’s father. He was the Substitute Golden Raven and emperor, but abdicated the throne in favor of Nazukihiko. He is a recluse with no political support.
Rokon: Natsuka’s bodyguard and a priest of Clear Mirror Temple.
Seiken: An instructor at the Keisōin. When Yukiya was enrolled at the Keisōin, he was in charge of teaching the Six Subjects of a noble education, including etiquette.
Suikan: Former Keisōin instructor. When Yukiya was enrolled at the Keisōin, he was the instructor of military strategy.
