MASTER POST
Nothing to Show for it Nigorikawa is about a family in crisis. The father of the family has died, putting pressure on his wife and their four children to keep the family business, a struggling bento shop, running.
Unfortunately, the children--and increasingly, the mother--have no interest in keeping the family business afloat at the expense of their own happiness. Two of the siblings have never moved away from home. Sae, the protagonist, is married, but her husband recently cheated on her and she is separated from him. The youngest, Hikari, is gay and hiding it.
Shijuu Kara (Starting at 40) fans will notice some very similar character models, but Sae is no Shinobu: she starts off more independent and modern and has a much stronger spine. There is more than one potential love interest thrown her way (not least her husband), though the main one is a massage therapist with a haunted past and a complicated open marriage.
Sae works hard at work and in life... but like the rest of the Nigorikawas, she doesn't have much to show for it.
